Cooking With Gas: Health Harms from Gas Stoves (My Green Doctor)
My Green Doctor is partnering with Physicians for Social Responsibility to provide MGD members with a free, CME-accredited webinar entitled Cooking With Gas: Health Harms from Gas Stoves.
In recent months, gas stoves and their associated health effects have been shoved into the limelight and Culture War. No matter how you feel about gas stoves, the fact remains that whether they are on or off gas appliances like gas stoves emit dangerous concentrations of air pollutants while also combusting fossil fuels, driving climate change further and further.
Join us on Thursday July 13th at 12pm, 1pm, or 2pm ET to learn about the harmful air pollutants produced by gas stoves, what they do to the human body, and what you can do to reduce your, your family’s and your patients’ risk of exposure. Physician CMEs and Nursing CEUs will be provided free-of-charge. Register here at any of the links included at the page below.
Diversity in Voiceshare of Nuclear Weapons Media Coverage
For the past several years, ReThink Media’s research and analysis team has tracked gender and race data in nuclear reporting. We will share this year’s data on who is being quoted in media coverage on nuclear weapons and arms control issues, and reflect together on how our community can continue to bring underrepresented voices to the forefront of coverage and analysis on our issues.
ReThink is thrilled to be joined by Laura Kelly, Foreign Policy Reporter at The Hill, one of a handful of journalists raising the bar in the nuclear reporting space by uplifting diverse sources in her reporting.
The Everyday Feminist: The Key to Sustainable Social Impact - Driving Movements We Need Now
Please join the CSIS Economics Program and the Project for Prosperity and Development for an event with Global Fund for Women’s President Latanya Mapp Frett on her new book “The Everyday Feminist: The Key to Sustainable Social Impact–Driving Movements We Need Now.”
We are seeing a wave of women’s rights rollbacks – from the repeal of Roe v Wade in the US to systematic rights violations in Afghanistan. At the same time grassroots feminists are loudly standing up like never before, joining the protests in Iran or saying “me too.” worldwide. Research shows these grassroots feminist activists and movements are the most effective levers against rising gender inequality as well as other social issues—but they and their work are often overlooked.
Countering AAPI Discrimination and its Intersections with U.S. Foreign Policy
Since the early history of the United States, America has been engaged in Asia and home to Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. The arc of the United States’ history is filled with legacies of both rising opportunity for and deepening discrimination toward AAPI communities that often intersected with shifting tides in U.S. foreign policy toward Asia. As the United States emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic—and the spike in AAPI hate crimes that came with it—and adopts a more assertive foreign policy towards China, how can the U.S. foreign policy community further counter AAPI hate and discrimination?
Please join CSIS to commemorate AAPI Heritage Month with a keynote address by Ambassador Katherine Tai, U.S. Trade Representative and Co-Chair of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI), and a panel discussion exploring ways to counter AAPI hate and discrimination and its intersections with U.S. foreign policy in Asia.
This event, hosted by the Center’s Asia Program, Diversity and Leadership in International Affairs (DLIA) Project, and the staff-led Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Employee Resource Group (ERG), builds on an event held in 2021, “Countering Asian and Asian American Discrimination as a Dimension of Foreign Policy.”
A networking reception for in-person guests will follow the expert panel.
Chinese Assessments of Countersanctions Strategies
The financial sanctions implemented by the United States and its key allies and partners in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have been unprecedented in their scale and scope. How are Chinese scholars and policymakers assessing the effectiveness of these sanctions, and what debates are unfolding about strategies and approaches Beijing might develop to counter or circumvent similar U.S.-led action in the future?
Please join the Interpret: China project and the CSIS Economics Program for a panel discussion of this important topic, drawing on recently translated primary source documents. The expert panel will feature Martin Chorzempa, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Barry Naughton, So Kwan Lok Chair of Chinese International Affairs at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, University of California San Diego, and Maria Shagina, Diamond-Brown Senior Research Fellow for Economic Sanctions, Standards and Strategy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. The discussion will be moderated by Gerard DiPippo, senior fellow with the CSIS Economics Program.
